Through a high quality bilingual education the International Chinese School equips students to be agents of transformation in a globalised society.
Through our bilingual program ICS students develop strong linguistic competence in English and Mandarin, and also intercultural competence that can prepare young people for living and working in an interconnected world.
At ICS we want to partner with our families to uphold expectations of respect and belonging as we nurture children for a life underpinned by strong values and beliefs. We want to empower our students to make a meaningful impact on the world, buy nurturing confidence, compassion and a global mindset.

As a bilingual speaker of English and Mandarin myself, I am not surprised that our students thrive in the ICS bilingual environment. They benefit from enhanced cognitive flexibility, improved problem-solving skills, and better self-control, often gaining a broader, more empathetic perspective of the world.
From their first day in kindergarten, students are immersed in a dynamic learning environment that emphasises speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Mandarin and English. About Dr Scott Smith
Dr Scott Smith has lived most of his life in Sydney, but he also spent an extended period in China where he learned Mandarin and taught English. He has worked in education for over 30 years, spanning early childhood, primary and secondary. His university work experience includes primary and secondary teacher education at Macquarie University, and Dean of Education at Morling College.
Scott is a lifelong learner, evidenced in his education history: PhD (Education), Master of Research (International Studies), Master of Applied Linguistics (TESOL), Master of Arts (Economic Geography), BADipEd. Scott’s PhD thesis and subsequent academic publications investigate Chinese language teaching in the Australian context. At some time in the future he plans to take up Chinese calligraphy!
