I believe that all students should learn a second language. Research has revealed that learning a language enhances brain functionand improves all-round learning. Further, with Australia’s increasing ties with Asia, China in particular, being bilingual in Mandarin/English will open future opportunities to our students. Most importantly however, in an increasingly globalised society bilingual education fosters a greater appreciation of other cultures. It helps students realise that people of all cultural backgrounds have been created by God and are equally loved and valued by Him.
I am amazed at how quickly our students learn Mandarin, especially considering the majority come to the School with no background in the language. From the first day of Kindergarten they are immersed in the language with a focus not only on spoken language, but also reading and writing. Our Mandarin teachers, all native speakers who have been trained and accredited as teachers in Australia, provide excellent models of the language. Student proficiency in Mandarin has been acknowledged at public events such as the Sydney Chinese Language Schools’ Spectacular.
Children and parents alike enjoy being part of such a wonderful learning community. Students feel secure through the love and personal care provided by teachers. Parents appreciate the priority given to the development of a partnership in learning, with the School encouraging active involvement of parents in their children’s education.
The education offered through ICS will prepare our students to be loving and responsible global citizens and servant leaders who will partner with Christ in transforming society to God’s original good intent.
I warmly invite you to visit our school and experience first-hand the opportunities available through ICS.
